In the lesson on Thursday we started the new topic of stress. As we are still in exam period we had a few class memebers missing. We focused on the meaning of stress, the causes of stress, ways of managing stress and how we could measure stress.

The task was to create a plan to carry out over the next three weeks for homework. They task must include a plan, the results and conclusion of this research task.

A lighter task was to create our own 'stress ball', my one names Penelope was obviously to best.

AS essay writing

The first AS essay!!

Your task is to write a detailed essay to answer this essay title.

'Cross cultural research has demonstrated many similarities in infant attachment styles across different cultures. To what extent are there cross-cultural variations in attachment?'

The first step is to create a plan.

In class we came up with a rough plan:-

* Describe Ainsworth and attachment style/types
* Describe Van ijzendoorn and Kroonenberg (1988)
* Findings
* Evaluation
* Evidence for similarities and differences
Other studies to look out for Grossman et al (1985)(see revision guide)
Miyake et al (1985),
Takahashi (1990),
Fox (1997), Goldberg (2002), Aveizer et al (1994)(You can find these on pg 62-63 in NT)
* Conclude findings/argument.

You will need to use class notes, textbooks and any other research you deem suitable from the internet. (Remember www.s-cool.co.uk)

If you want me to read it before it is due in that is fine.

The essay is due in on the 3rd of December.

What is the Big Personality Test?
The Big Personality Test is designed to answer the question: do our personalities shape our lives or do our lives shape our personalities?

I would like you all to contribute to this psychological research by answering simple questions about things like your lifestyle, preferences, relationships and background. By doing this you will be helping scientists to understand to what extent our personalities are shaped by a whole range of influences.

Once you have finished you will recieve a detailed video feedback from Professor Robert Winston, in addition to a range of other fascinating insights about what makes you you.

What is personality?

The idea of ‘personality’ is familiar to everyone, but what does it actually mean? Broadly speaking, ‘personality’ describes the patterns of behaviour, thought and emotion that make a person unique.

The Big Five personality test is one of the most widely used psychological measures

The Big Five

The Big Personality Test works out your ‘Big Five’ traits (which we refer to as ‘your unique personality fingerprint’). The Big Five test, or ‘Five Factor’ personality test, is a widely recognised and well-used scientific measure of personality.

The traits it measures are Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism (OCEAN).

Openness-to what extent you are receptive to novel ideas, creative experiences and different values.

Conscientiousness-to what extent you are organised, strategic and forward-planning.

Extroversion-to what extent you are inclined to experience positive emotions and how attracted you are to social, stimulating experiences.

Agreeableness-to what extent you are concerned about the feelings of others and how easily you form bonds with people.

Neuroticism- to what extent you react to perceived threats and stressful situations.

This test is a very realiable measure of personality and it is extremely likely that if you take this test in five years time you will get a similar result.

So why not take part in an important psychological research study.

Camper van 'dream killer' Brian Thomas freed by judge

Hey guys,

Here is the verdict of the case that we were talking about on wednesday.
http://http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8370237.stm

The 'dream killer' has been freed as he was not in control of his body at the time of the murder.

My husband thinks that it is just an excuse and that he lost his temper, as did Josh. I am inclined to think that he did not know what he was doing and that the loss of his wife is probably punishment for the crime.

What do you think of the verdict?

Half year examinations approaching!

It has been proven over and over that the earlier you start your revision, not only will you experience less stress, you will also gain higher marks than compared to those who leave it a couple of weeks before. So, having said that, it's vital that you start your revision now if you haven't already done so.

Here is a websites that may help you.

Welcome

Hi guys welcome to the A level psychology blog.
I have set this up to make sharing psychology work easier, so that you can discuss ideas and concerns. It will also mean that you can have more immediate feedback on work produced and can learn from each other.

I hope this will be a regular part of the psychology at Kings Norton sixth form college.

Enjoy

:)
